Gymstar 2018 Season Wrap
What an incredible Gymstar season we have had in 2018!
The Gymstar program continues to grow in Victoria, with 2018 being the biggest year yet. Over 55 clubs offered Gymstar to their athletes, with 20 clubs hosting Gymstar competitions.
Gymstar is a program that is offered for both male and female gymnasts and focuses on the execution of gymnastics skills, rather than the difficulty. Gymnasts can compete on Floor, Beam, Vaults, Bars, Rings and Parallel Bars. Each Gymstar event is enjoyable for both the participants and the spectators, with an emphasis on creating a positive and fun atmosphere.
The first Gymstar competition was held on Sunday 24 June and the last on the Sunday 28 October. Over the course of four months, 35 different Gymstar events were held throughout Victoria. We were thrilled to host more than 5,000 participants over the course of the Gymstar season.
Participants came from all around Victoria, from as far as Warrnambool, Phillip Island and Swan Hill. Gymnastics Victoria were also delighted to host the first club participating in Gymstar from overseas. The team from North Harbour Gymnastics Community Trust in New Zealand made the long trip to compete at the Gymstar competition held at BTYC in September.
Gymnastics Victoria’s Gymstar Coordinator, Dwight Hulme, is excited about the growth of the Gymstar program.
“It was fantastic to see so many gymnasts participate in the Gymstar competition this year. It’s such a great way for gymnasts to compete in a fun and relaxed environment.”
“We had competitors of every age and skill level, with the youngest competitors aged 5 years and the oldest aged 60” said Dwight.
Gymnastics Victoria would like to thank the incredible Gymstar Floor Managers as well as the amazing judges and countless coaches who made the program possible.
Well done to all of the Gymstar athletes on an incredible year! We look forward to another fantastic year of Gymstar in 2019.
