2018 Women in Sport Breakfast

The fifth annual Women in Sport Breakfast was held on Thursday 11 October at the RACV City Club, with over 400 people in attendance.

Along with some fantastic food and an incredible view over the Melbourne CBD, guests were treated to a key note address from Sport Australia CEO Kate Palmer. Kate gave a wonderful speech about the culture of sport in Australia and the importance of equal representation in the community.

Our Master of Ceremonies for the proceedings was ABC Breakfast News Sports Presenter Georgie Tunny. With a wealth of knowledge in many sports and an engaging stage presence, Georgie delighted the guests and kept everyone entertained throughout the morning.

Both the Minister for Sport Hon. John Eren and Shadow Minister for Sport Danny O’Brien attended the event. John Eren emphasised the commitment of the Victorian Government to continue to invest in infrastructure that will increase female participation in sport. Danny O’Brien echoed these sentiments saying that “the huge growth in sport participation is largely driven by women and girls”.

In honour of the International Day of the Girl, Georgie interviewed three young gymnasts from Waverley Gymnastics Centre. Miella, Zoe and Sumer answered a number of questions about what they love about their sport and their future ambitions. It was great to hear from the future generation of women in our sport!
