To the Gymnastics Clubs of Victoria,
As we approach the end of the year, the Board of Gymnastics Victoria would like to thank you for your support and forbearance during 2020. This year has been both challenging and rewarding in so many ways and we have learned to appreciate the importance of simple things like connecting with each other and working together. Congratulations to the clubs that have restarted this term! To those clubs who will recommence classes next year, we wish you every success as your members return to gymnastics.
The Board has recently reflected on some of the more positive outcomes realised by our gymnastics community this year:
• We are a community that values the strength of connection with each other
• We have learned new ways to communicate and work together
• We have learned new ways to package our programs
• The passion for our sport has endured despite the many challenges of lockdown
Gymnastics Victoria has proudly assisted all clubs in 2020 by proactively choosing not to collect any registration fees from the commencement of the pandemic. We look forward to continuing to rebuild our services and events in 2021 and will work alongside clubs to help address their needs. We also thank our partners HR Plus and LawSquared who have supported our clubs throughout this difficult time.
Advocacy with local and state government has been strong this year. During August, many clubs worked with Gymnastics Victoria to approach their local members to communicate the specific challenges faced by gymnastics clubs during the pandemic. We are confident that this concerted effort helped to position the value of gymnastics for Victoria and to distinguish between gymnastics clubs and other indoor sports or activities when lifting restrictions.
Our commitment to child safety remains a top priority. We await the recommendations of the Australian Human Rights Commission and in the meantime continue to develop and nurture a culture of care for all our members.
In 2021, the Board will be launching a new strategic plan for Gymnastics Victoria and looks forward to communicating this with you. Our CEO, Robin O’Neill is already reaching out to clubs to talk about our plans for the future.
On behalf of the Board, I send you Seasons Greetings and a hope that you can enjoy a relaxing break over the summer period.
The Board and staff of Gymnastics Victoria look forward with optimism and anticipation to 2021 and to once again visiting clubs and seeing gymnasts enjoying the sport at all levels.
