So we find ourselves having to buckle down once more and prepare for another two weeks of lockdown. I am very aware of the strain this continues to place on all of us – clubs, administrators, coaches, gymnasts and their parents.

This is placing everyone under considerable pressure, and I feel particularly for all gymnasts who must deal with this constantly changing landscape.

Today the Premier has announced that that from tonight the lockdown restrictions will be strengthened and extended in metropolitan Melbourne, until 11.59pm on Thursday, 2 September. This is an additional 14 days on the previous directions.

Directions for Regional Victoria remain unchanged.

You can read the Premier's Statement here and FAQs about the current restrictions can be found here

A club zoom forum will be held at 11am on Wednesday 18 August. The focus of this session will be to listen and group problem solve, discuss where services can be adjusted and assist in a group forum.

We have seen that our gymnastics community is strong, but it is not always easy to maintain that sense of community from the enforced isolation of our homes. Please take the time to reach out to each other and offer support and encouragement where you can.

I know that we are all getting very tired of this, and we will continue to do all we can to support your club and keep spirits up.  Thank you so much for your ongoing patience and support through the pandemic.

While it was reprieve and reopening for our regional clubs earlier this week, unfortunately lockdown has been extended in metropolitan Melbourne. As my daughter just told me, I’m in Spain – without the S. While she does love a bad dad joke, the gymnastics industry is in pain and maintaining support for each other is important.

The Premier announced that the current metropolitan Melbourne restrictions will remain in place until at least 11:59pm, Thursday 19 August.

A club zoom forum tomorrow at 11.30am.
The focus of this session is to listen and group problem solve, discuss where services can be adjusted and assist in a group forum.

I feel the ongoing pain of each of the metropolitan gymnastics clubs who are closed and remain hopeful that this extension will address the current outbreak and allow all clubs to resume.

Lockdown 6.

These lockdowns are very disruptive to the sense of routine, which is so important in the development of young children, and they place great burdens on staff and families as well....as a gymnastics community, all our hearts are heavy.

Please remember to take on this difficult time by continuing to stay connected with your friends and gymnastics colleagues.

Today the Victorian Premier announced that due to the COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours – suspected to be the highly infectious Delta variant – Victoria will enter a state-wide lockdown for seven days from 8:00pm tonight, Thursday 5 August.

This means once again gymnastics clubs across Victoria must close.

This information can be found here

We will hold a Club Forum tomorrow Friday 6 August at 2pm AEST. These forums have proved helpful to provide support, listen and collectively address issues clubs need to consider and action.

It was such a relief to receive a call and message from the Minister’s office this morning to advise that gymnastics clubs will be able to open their doors at the same time as schools resume. This has been a key feature of our advocacy position and seems 5th time is a charm!

Today the Premier announced that the lockdown will be lifted state-wide from 11.59pm tonight.

Across Victoria indoor community sport and gymnastics clubs can re-open with the following guidelines:

•  Maximum patron cap of 100 people per space indoors and 300 per space outdoors
•  Density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm. COVID Check-in Marshals must ensure attendees check-in.
•  Group limit of 10 people

You can read the announcement here where a full list of restrictions can be found at the bottom of the page.

The Gymnastics Victoria team are here to help your club re-open safely and a list of FAQs can be found here. If you require any support, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the GV team.

To continue to assist clubs to bolster their workforce we have organised another coaching course promotion with Gymnastics Australia. Beginner coaches will have access to enrol in the online Intermediate Theory 1 Coaching Course for FREE from Thursday 29 July until 11.59pm on Monday 2 August.

To access the online Intermediate Theory 1 Coaching Course and the free rate, individuals can email [email protected] for the code.

This course is located on Gymnastics Australia’s LMS platform which can be accessed by logging into your GOL account via the Gymnastics Australia website.

Please note that Gymnastics Victoria are continuing to plan for the Senior Victorian Championships due to be held from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th of August at Geelong Arena.  We will follow all Government regulations for the delivery of a COVID Safe event.

Entries close tomorrow so amongst the Olympics and reopening of clubs, please don’t forget!

Finally, we hope you have been able to enjoy watching the gymnastics at the Olympics, including inspiring routines from Emily Whitehead from Waverley Gymnastics Centre and a huge effort by Tyson Bull, originally from Knox Gymnastics Club, to qualify for the Horizontal Bar final which will be held next Tuesday 3 August starting at 6pm.

COVID-19 updates with extended restrictions are never easy to write. A positive constant is the support across the gymnastics community to be there for each other during lockdown periods. Please remember to reach out and check in on your gymnastics colleagues and friends for an online cuppa.

On the eve of celebrating gymnastics at the Olympics, there is much to look forward to and continue to inspire us all.

The Premier has announced that the current restrictions in Victoria will remain in place for at least another seven days until Tuesday 27 July at 11.59pm.

Keeping on top of the ever-growing list of Exposure Sites is becoming challenging, however it is very important that we all do.  The link to public exposure sites can be found here

Hopefully, remaining closed for this one-week extension will address the current outbreak and allow clubs to resume soon.

A club zoom forum will be held tomorrow at 11am. As usual, the focus is to listen, group problem-solve and discuss priority services. These forums are a great source of information sharing across the gymnastics community.

July 15

As we all feared, the Premier has now announced a snap lockdown for five days commencing at midnight tonight.

This is hardly the start we had hoped for Term 3, but hopefully, by acting quickly to address the current outbreak it will allow all gymnastics clubs to resume very soon.

Tomorrow at 10am, we will host a club zoom forum. These forums, on the immediate announcements of the Premier have proved very helpful to provide support, listen and collectively address issues club administrators need to consider and action.

Gymnastics Victoria continues to plan for the Victorian Championships Thursday 27 to Friday 29 August and, in conjunction with Geelong Arena, has a covid-safe events plan submitted to the Government that follows all regulations and advise for event hosting. The draft schedule and competition bulletin have been released and are available on the event webpage here .

I am sure that with patience, determination and goodwill we will get through the next few days and come back excited to be back in clubs on the eve of the Tokyo Olympics.
