Child Safe Champion

Gymnastics Victoria are committed to ensuring that gymnastics is a sport that is safe for all participants. Our Gymnastics Victoria Child Safe Champion has been chosen to be an advocate for young gymnasts in the community as they are respected and seen as a role model.

Emily Whitehead

Emily started Gymnastics when she was five years old at Grips Gymnastics in Ringwood. She first got involved in the sport because her older sister was a gymnast. Twelve years later, Emily is a Senior International Gymnast at Waverley Gymnastics Centre.

Emily has gone from strength-to-strength in gymnastics, with podium finishes at multiple World Cup Gymnastics competitions, as well as a bronze medal on vault and a team bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Emily was a member of the 2019 Senior International championship team and was selected for the 2019-20 WAG National Squad.

Emily is passionate about her role as a Child Safe Champion, and wants all young gymnasts to know that all kids have the right to feel safe.

“It’s all about feeling safe and happy. We want every child to go into the gym with confidence and feeling like it’s a safe environment,” Emily said.
