2021 Women in Sport Breakfast
The eighth annual Women in Sport Breakfast will be held on Friday 8 October in line with the International Day of the Girl.
For the second year in a row, Gymnastics Victoria will be holding the event online via the Zoom platform.
The event Major Sponsor is Victoria University and the 2021 event will celebrate the Olympic success for women's sport and will also focus on how sport in Victoria can move forward in 2022.
We are delighted to have a fantastic panel of women in sport to discuss the Tokyo Olympics who will be led in a Q&A discussion by ABC News Breakfast sports journalist Georgie Tunny.
The panel will include;
•
Layne Beachley AO, Layne is regarded as the most successful female surfer in history. Layne’s dedication to success saw her as the only surfer, male or female, to claim six consecutive world titles between 1998 and 2003. Layne went on to win a 7th world title in 2006 before retiring from the ASP World Tour in 2008. Layne is the Chair of Surfing Australia and will reflect on what it meant to her and the sport of surfing to have the sport included in the Tokyo Olympics.
•
Lucy Stephan, part of the Women’s 4 Rowing team who won a Gold Medal at the Tokyo Olympics. With a decorated rowing career including multiple gold medals at world championships and world cups, Lucy will discuss how it felt to win an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo.
•
Emily Whitehead, a women’s artistic gymnast who clinched her Olympic spot in May 2021 and trained through 18 months of Victorian lockdowns to get to Tokyo. Emily will talk about her journey to the Olympics and how it felt to actually get there.
•
Ellie Cole, Australia’s most decorated female Paralympic athlete with a record-breaking 17 Paralympic medals and OAM to her name. Ellie has overcome injuries and adversity to rise to prolific heights and was this year honoured as the flagbearer at the Tokyo 2020 Closing Ceremony.
To keep the tradition of the breakfast event alive, all attendees will also be supplied with a breakfast recipe.
